Finland’s Innovative Playground: Teaching Technology Through Play
One of the most fascinating modern examples comes from Helsinki, Finland. Since 2023, the city has been building a large computer-themed sports and play park, blending physical activity with digital education. The playground was designed by Linda Liukas, author of the famous Hello Ruby books about programming for kids. Her vision turns technology into a game — something children can touch, explore, and understand.
A climbing tower shaped like a computer processor
A sandbox designed as a game controller
Eco-friendly materials throughout the area
Full accessibility for children with disabilities
More than 350 students and teachers helped shape the project through workshops and surveys. The playground will open in late 2024 and is expected to become a major community hub.
Social Impact: Playgrounds That Build Communities
Modern sports playgrounds are more than places for kids to run and jump. They:
strengthen neighborhood identity
bring families together
support communication between parents
help children learn teamwork and conflict resolution
improve safety through constant community presence
Regular activities — sports competitions, outdoor classes, picnics — create a friendly environment where families feel connected. Children learn to interact, make friends, and develop healthy habits from early years.
Educational & Health Benefits: Why Sports Infrastructure Matters
Sports facilities help children:
develop coordination, strength, endurance
reduce stress and improve mental health
stay physically active instead of spending extra hours on screens
form healthy lifestyle habits
enhance concentration, supporting academic performance

Themed sports playgrounds (such as Helsinki’s tech park) combine physical activity with educational elements — history, science, programming, creative problem-solving. They spark imagination and help kids explore their abilities through play.
In these spaces, children become the heroes of their own stories: explorers, athletes, digital characters, or adventurers. Sports and imagination blend naturally, creating environments where learning becomes fun.
Looking Ahead
The construction of the Finnish playground is expected to conclude by the end of 2024, and it already stands as a powerful example of how modern sports infrastructure can change communities. For Dartsnager, such innovative projects serve as inspiration: our sport also aims to strengthen social ties, promote inclusivity, and make physical activity accessible to everyone.
We will continue monitoring global best practices — and sharing ideas that enrich the world of sport.
